Preparing Florida's Next Generation of Cyber Defenders
The Cyber Florida Security Operations Center Apprentice Program (SOCAP) offers USF students paid internships while providing supplemental cybersecurity support services to public-sector partners.
Real-World Cybersecurity Experience
SOCAP transforms students—many with little to no cybersecurity experience—into skilled cyber analysts. Working with seasoned mentors, SOCAP students identify and enhance their strengths in both technical and soft skills to become well-rounded, hire-ready professionals. Students build these skills through real-world cybersecurity projects provided by public-sector partners, such as network monitoring, malware analysis, and more.
SOCAP students build skills and provide services in:
Incident Response
Assisting public-sector partners with security investigations
Threat Intelligence
Researching adversarial tactics to strengthen defenses
Security Automation
Developing scripts and tools to optimize SOC processes
Digital Forensics
Identifying, preserving, recovering, and analyzing electronic data from digital devices
Vulnerability Assessment
Identifying, evaluating, and prioritizing weaknesses in systems, applications, and networks
Information for Students
The program currently provides 10 internships at any given time to students at the University of South Florida. However, Cyber Florida is exploring expanding by adding more seats at USF and branching out to other State University System of Florida universities. Students interested in applying to the program should visit the USF Careers page to see if there are any openings. Applicants go through a competitive interview process.

SOCAP services are available to Florida-based law enforcement and public-sector entities, including municipalities, counties, and their departments.
